In 1953 Len Engelsman immigrated to Canada from  Spui, a small town in southern Holland. He stayed with friends in Weston Ontario working several jobs trying to make a go of this new country. Len met and married Grace Bruinwood and together they lived in Thornhill where in 1960 Len began as a small engine mechanic apprentice for Katola’s Small Engines. Eventually the owners of Katola decided to shut down but Len knew that Thornhill was a growing community and that there was a need for a small engine shop.
In 1966 Len borrowed $450. And started Thornhill Lawn Equipment. Working tirelessly Len slowly built a name for himself as Thornhill’s go to guy for sales and repairs of outdoor power equipment.
Unfortunately Len passed away in 1990. Today, Eric and John, Len’s sons, run the family business on John Street and are proud to carry out Len’s dream.
Len’s two oldest Grand sons Aaron and BJ also are employed as well as long time loyal employee Julio.  Cheryl , John’s wife, handles the book keeping making this a true family business
Now that you know a little about us we encourage you to come in so we can meet you. Our goal is to gain “lifetime customers” and you can only do this by selling top quality power products followed by exceptional service.
